Join the AHS Tucson Chapter for a meeting in honor of Professor Tom Meixner
Hear an update from the Meixner Memorial Foundation on how they are supporting the University of Arizona’s new 1-year MS Hydrogeology Program in Tom’s memory.
Professor Ty Ferre will introduce the new cohort of MS Hydrogeology students. A great opportunity for companies to meet potential future employees!
Finally, Professor Neha Gupta will present on the Arizona Tri-University Recharge and Water Reliability (ATUR) Project, a study for which Tom was the initial Principal Investigator.
Title: Supporting Groundwater Recharge Across Arizona: Hydrologic Science, Decisions Support, and Opportunities Ahead
Abstract: The Arizona Tri-University Recharge and Water Reliability (ATUR) Project brought together researchers from the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and Northern Arizona University, along with water managers and stakeholders, to advance understanding of groundwater recharge and water reliability across Arizona. This presentation will highlight the project's scientific foundation, statewide groundwater basin assessments, and decision-support tools for evaluating recharge opportunities. This talk will also explore opportunities to build on this work through applied research and decision-support resources to connect hydrological information research with contemporary water management needs. Discussion will invite input from AHS members on research priorities, practical tools, and opportunities to make ATUR's next phase useful to hydrologists and water resource practitioners across Arizona.
Bio: Dr. Neha Gupta is an Assistant Research Professor at the Arizona Institute for Resilience at the University of Arizona and affiliate faculty in the Department of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences. Her research focuses on groundwater recharge, urban hydrology, and water resilience in arid and semi-arid environments. She leads the Arizona Tri-University Recharge and Water Reliability (ATUR) Project.
Thank you to the Meixner Memorial Foundation for sponsoring this meeting! The meeting is free to attend, but please be sure to register so that we have an accurate attendance count.
