Can't make it for the whole field trip? Come join us for just a day! You will be responsible for your own meals during the trip.
Registration covers the cost of insurance and the field trip guide as well as other costs put on the field trip.
Starting at 1pm, join us for an overview of the area hydrogeology and hen drive to locations for talks on area geology and hydrogeology. After dinner is orientation and an overview of the area water development and features around Little Thumb Butte Bed and Breakfast.
Hike into the Upper Verde Wildlife Area, walk to see the confluence of Granite Creek and the Verde, walk to Stillman Lake and the nearby petroglyph site, view the geology of pre-Cambrian, Cambrian, and Devonian stratigraphy and some Tertiary volcanics. After lunch, drive and then hike to the Paulden Gauge from the Rio Verde Ranch. Discuss about FS watershed restoration activities in the area, and visit the low-flow SRP gauge.
Drive to Big Chino Water Ranch, discuss the ranch history, acquisition, features, and current scientific work. After lunch, talk and discussion on designation of the Upper Verde as a Wild and Scenic River. Then drive to the Verde River State Park, Del Rio Springs, and Sullican Lake.
Drive to Watson Lake to discuss Prescott water supply. Drive to Goldwater Lake to discuss the history of the Prescott water supply, water quality monitoring, and watershed restoration in the area. Then explore the Goldwater Lake area. After lunch, visit mining remediation sites (carpooling encouraged!).
