Presentation: Navigating the Non-Navigable Gila River, Adventures in Streambed Ownership in Arizona

In 2019, Jon Fuller completed an epic 650-mile paddling and pedaling journey down the entire Gila River, from its headwaters at the Continental Divide in New Mexico, through the Gila Wilderness, and across Arizona to the river’s mouth at Yuma, Arizona.  Jon’s journey is the longest known solo canoe trip on the Gila, and the longest boat trip of any kind on the Gila since 1891.  Like Jon’s 196-mile solo canoe trip down the Verde in 2017, his trips were the capstone of a 30-year legal battle over navigability and streambed ownership of Arizona rivers. Jon’s AHS talk will update us on the status of Arizona’s navigability program told from the perspective of his canoe.

The Zoom invitation is automatically included in the confirmation e-mail. For security reasons and because Zoom attendance is limited to 100 people, we thank you for not sharing the link.
